what they don't know about me

here are some of the few things that not so many people i know knew about me...  maybe it's time to open-up a little.
take note, these are just few of "the many" hehehe...

1.      That I love surprises.  I want to be surprised on my birthday or any special occasions.  It’s very touching knowing that people closest to your heart took time to make your special day memorable.  That they really gone out of their way just to make me feel I am so loved and special.

2.      That fried chicken and spaghetti are my favorite foods.  Not so many people knew that I can eat fried chicken and spaghetti practically everyday.  Those are the foods that cannot be absent in my plate whenever they’re available in parties that I attended.

3.      That I was never a “Batang Jollibee” kid.  My first Jollibee experience was when I was in my senior year in high school.  That’s the reason why I’m still excited whenever I see Jollibee perform in kiddie parties.

4.      That I love watching basketball.  One of my closest friends was really surprised when I told her I love basketball.  I may not be the kind of fan that religiously watch every game on TV but it is something I really enjoy watching whenever I have time.  I still have a huge crush on Olsen Racela, Alvin Patrimonio, Jojo Lastimosa and Richard Yee.

5.      That I’m a HUGE PBB fan.  I don’t know why but this reality show really caught my interest.  Maybe I just find it interesting to see different personalities living in one house for more than 3 months.  Seeing them interact with each other and knowing that they don’t have scripts to follow, just purely their opinions and beliefs.

6.      That Cinderella is my favorite Disney character.  I love Cinderella movies.  I want to believe that someday, a handsome prince will come to our house and claim me to be his bride and we will live happily ever after.

7.      That I’m “dumb” reading the time.  I love wrist watches but the problem is I find it hard to read the time.  It usually takes a while before I answer whenever someone asks me what the time is especially if the watch I’m wearing doesn’t have numbers.  If I answered quickly, you can be sure that I’m wearing a digital watch.

8.      That I don’t use chopsticks.  I’m just a Chinese-Japanese-Korean looking gal but I don’t definitely know how to use chopsticks.  I don’t want to pressure myself using two thin sticks just to enjoy my food.  I’m still a spoon/fork lady that’s why when I went to Macau, I brought with me my “user-friendly” chopsticks.  I didn’t care when I saw the Chinese waitress laughed when she saw what I was using.

9.      That I’m really a silent person.  I know a lot of people would react when they read this because they knew me as someone who always has stories to tell.  But what they don’t know is that when I’m like that, it’s because I’m really sad or something's bothering me.  That it’s my way of hiding how I truly feel.  I enjoy silent moments alone wherein I can re-assess what’s going on in my life.

10.  That Deathly Hollows was my first Harry Potter movie.  What?!  That’s the usual reaction I get whenever I tell people that I haven’t seen any Harry Potter movies except Deathly Hollows, yeah, the last book.  Don’t get me wrong.  In a different situation, I might be a Harry Potter fanatic too, books and movies, it’s just that I didn’t get to see the first installment of the movie franchise that’s why I didn’t watch the succeeding installments.

11.  That I love Archie.  Yep.  The comic book.  It’s the first English comic book I’ve read when I was a kid and since then, I started to love Archie, Jughead, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and the rest of the gang.  I may not be a comic collector but I surely enjoy reading it whenever I get a copy.

12.  That I love adventures.  I’m truly afraid of so many things but there’s something inside me that is stronger than any fear, and that is the urge to try new things.  I am not a daredevil but I’m open to the idea of trying bungee jumping someday.  I love road trips even without specific destinations.  I love getting lost with someone I love and end up laughing with what just happened.

13.  That I love to be hugged.  Whenever I am happy or sad, I love to be hugged.  Everytime someone hugs me, a friend, family or someone special, I feel that nothing would go wrong.  In sadness, no words of comfort could compare to a hug because a hug says it all.

14.  That hospitals give me the creeps.  Yep!  I hate going to the hospitals most especially if it has to be my medical check-up.  For me, it’s always bad news.  Hospitals gives me the irk feeling that something bad is going to happen.  I always hold my breath walking in hospital corridors until I reach the room of the person I’m going to visit.

15.  That I love fireworks.  Fireworks never fails to fascinate me.  My eyes light up everytime I see a firework display.  It wakes up my veins.  It gives me a certain feeling of hope and anticipation.  That even in the darkest sky, you’ll be surprised to see something beautiful and wonderful unfolding before your eyes.

remembering matet

August 20, 2010 - This is what I wrote during Matet's eulogy.  We will forever miss you Matet...

When I first met Matet, my initial reaction was, “oh, I thought she’s tall!”

When it comes to height, Matet may be a small person but I’m sure that all of you will agree with me when I say she has a big heart for everyone.  She’s the type of person who would give her all if that’s the only way for her to help someone in need.  I will never forget her smiles and laughter even in those times that she’s really tired.  Many used to joke that we’re sisters because I’m Lot-Lot and she’s Matet.  But true enough, I somehow felt that she treated me as her younger sister.  She’s very sweet and thoughtful.  Everytime someone will give her something, she will call me at the Accounting office to share it with me.  And when my father died barely three months ago, she offered her comforting hug.  And when I cried, she cried with me too.  I still remember when we had this serious conversation about life.  I shared with her all my pains and heartaches and the next thing I knew, she was crying already because she said, she can imagine the pains I’ve been through.  The next day, she told me that she was really glad for the conversation that we had.  She even hoped for us to have that kind of conversation again.

Matet was truly a good person and there’s something in her you wouldn’t miss to love.  Some people may think that she had overdone it but Matet was not Matet if she wasn’t like that.  That’s how she really was.  She wants to care to people and extend her help in the best way she can.

I will forever miss her laughter, the way she called me “kapatid” and the look of concern in her eyes.

Matet…I may not be here right now to personally deliver this short message but I know that you understand because we both love our families.  You’re a good daughter, a loving friend and a great colleague.  And for the last time, I just want to make one more request.  Please give all my love to my Tatay and please tell him how much I miss him.  And to you Matet, please know that I truly appreciate all the kindness you’ve shown me.  We love you and you will forever be in our hearts.  Thank you so much for sharing your life with us.  It’s really sad that you have to go and leave us but we know that you’re now in a better place for Father God have already called you in His kingdom.  Rest well Matet ‘cause you truly deserve a break.

I won’t say goodbye, instead, see you again in heaven…
